Technically speaking, in its most commonly used meaning, a domain name is a name that identifies a computer or a network of computers over the internet. The domain name will be a part of the website's url.
For example if I own a site with URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of
URL : http://www.abcd.com/index.html
Then the domain name will be
Domain Name : www.abcd.com

So why is all the fuss about domain names? I shall tell you soon. Please read on.

Now you for some purpose decide on begin a website. You go to a webhost company to apply for webspace. They will ask you if already have a domain name or not?
